X Minus One was a science fiction radio drama series that aired from 1955 to 1958. The series was a revival of the earlier program, Dimension X, and featured adaptations of classic science fiction stories written by some of the most acclaimed authors of the time, including Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, and Robert Heinlein. The show was produced by NBC and aired on their radio network. Each episode of X Minus One was a self-contained story, with themes ranging from time travel and space exploration to artificial intelligence and alien invasion. The series was known for its high-quality writing and production values, and featured some of the most talented actors and voice actors of the time, including Peter Capell, Joan Alexander, and Santos Ortega. One of the most famous episodes of X Minus One was "The Cold Equations," which was an adaptation of a story by Tom Godwin. The episode tells the story of a teenage stowaway on a spacecraft who is discovered just as the ship is about to make a critical fuel transfer. The ship's pilot realizes that the extra weight of the stowaway will cause the ship to run out of fuel and crash, and he is faced with a difficult decision.
